Why ‘Google My Business’ Is So Important to YOUR Local Business

Why Google My Business Is So Important to YOUR Local BusinessAre you looking for a free and easy way for potential customers to find you online, see your services at a glance and connect with you instantly? If you have Google My Business set up and verified, you are way ahead of most business owners.

In this episode, James Martell talks to T.J. LeBlanc about why Google My Business is so important for YOUR local business, and why having one that is set-up properly and with all of the boxes checked can have such a BIG impact on not only the traffic to your website, but for visitors to your physical location as well.

What is a Google My Business Page?

Google My Business is a free tool for businesses to manage their online presence across Google, including Search and Maps in your local community. It is essentially a free business directory listing on Google found over in the right hand side of the page, that showcases your business.

Why Google My Business Is So Important

When people are searching for you online, you need to be there front and center, where customers can see what you are all about, your hours, your address and phone number, a map, photos, and what other customers are saying about you! If they see accurate information and positive 5-star reviews, you have a good chance at getting a new customer.

What is Claiming Your Google Listing?

James and T.J. explain how to search to see if you have a listing, and if you do, what information it displays about your business, and most importantly, the steps you need to take so you can claim, verify and edit your business information.

You want to be taking control of this page yourself! If you are displaying wrong information, no photos, no 5-star reviews, incorrect phone number or map location, you could lose a customer coming to your website or your business. Matt Cutts from Google says that “70% of Google listings have inaccurate information”. That is a BIG problem, but one that is easily corrected.

How to Verify Your Business

If you find your listing, you need to claim it. A button shows up called “verify my business”. This allows Google to verify your business through a verification process that once verified, allows you to add photos, description, or anything you need to showcase your business. You have full control of the listing and you can correct any errors and enhance the listing. Google collects a lot of information about you, and uses this to determine where you will show up in the search results.

Once verified – you have a lot of opportunities to share information. This episode explains what you can do to get new customers and keep existing customers returning. They share what elements your Google My Business page should have, and what is most important to the people searching for you. You will also learn the most common mistakes you need to avoid.
